Home Nijinsky's Horse Diver

Diver

The surface lies below the diver;
Into the depths he disappears;
The shrill world peels from his ears
And sets him tumbling, mute, alive,
Till rising through the foaming tiers,
He gasps and hears the world revive.

The sentence lies below the sayer
Who stops and plunges in the deep
Where silent musings roil and sweep
And carry the ponderer layer by layer,
Till rising where his reasonings reach,
He breaks the surface into speech.
